Today, I had a non-christian friend ask me, "How was the collection on Sunday, pastor?"
I said, "I don't know, I don't keep track of that on Sundays. Once a month we have a finance meeting and they let me know if I need to be concerned."
Now, the question I am asking myself is - "What do I value on Sunday morning?"
or "What should I be keeping track of?"

How many people nodded off!!:) - your wife
Ha! Nice, Cathy.
Love the blog, Walt!!! Now, you need to get Facebook, Twitter, and Myspace going and you'll truly be hip.
It's funny because, I've been more than a year without a church to pastor or a church to belong to. I don't think I have a clue what I'm keeping track of on Sunday morning either.
i certainly couldn't answer for you, but as a colleague in ministry, i can answer for myself. for me its people.
people. that's what i'm trying to keep track of on sunday morning. "have i met that couple before?"
"what is his name?"
"hey there's sandy! i haven't seen her in a month."
"i wonder if i offended them by saying that?"
these are the kinds of things that are going through my mind on a sunday morning.
I think you should not be concerned with the money It you are meeting the needs of the people the money comes naturally. Judy
things i keep track of on sunday morning...
time, because i am moving between two locations on a tight schedule.
the Spirit moving in my thoughts and emotions because i preach from an outline and welcome the Spirit's guidance and often i have shifts in my material as i move from congregation to congregation through three services i do.
after church, i attempt to keep track of my three kids and wife (but often with no avail).
i also try and be in a positive frame of mind even through rough spots.
as far as money, i don't have much to do with it, other people count it, pay the bills, etc. in our congregation, we have people that give monthly and electronically, so what is in the offering week to week doesn't even cross my mind. once in awhile, when we are making a special plea - like for Katrina relief - i do like to find out as soon as i can because it is a missional and time sensitive plea.
thanks for the invite to your blog! i enjoyed it!
What would I keep track of on Sunday? To me, church is about sharing in fellowship so I would keep track of attendance. Imagine the delight if more of the Christmas midnight service folks would show up on a regular Sunday. That would be beautiful.
I think it is important to get as mant people to share in the service as possible. I like it when parrishoners do the readings.
